Home Sweet Home!!!

We've been home for one week and I think everything is going pretty good so far. Ryleigh is a very good baby. She is just starting to stay awake a little during the day. The first night home, she stayed awake most of the night. I think she had her times mixed up. She hates getting her diaper changed and being cold. And she did not like her first bath, but she survived. My mom is here for three weeks and it makes things a lot easier. I don't know how I am going to get two kids and myself ready in the morning and out the door, when I have to work, when she leaves. I will have to deal with it. Ryleigh's first doctors appointment is tomorrow. I hope she gained weight. She eats like a pig. I have resorted to pumping and feeding her breast milk from a bottle cuz she sucks really hard and I was not having a good time with it (sore, cracked, bleeding, and painful). Now I am more relaxed and can enjoy feeding my little girl. I have recovered nicely I think. I can sit down on the wood dining table chairs without a pillow now and have no problem moving around. McKenna is adjusting to a new baby in her own way. She does not act negatively toward Ryleigh at all, but has been trying to get a lot more attention from us. She runs around the house instead of walking and is constantly jumping or doing some kind of gymnastics stunt. I can't get her to settle down. She is just energetic about everything. My mom bought her some boots the other day. McKenna loves shoes. They were supposed to be snow boots since it has snowed here almost every day since Ryleigh was born, but Walmart didn't have any. So she ended up with dressy black ones that have no traction on them whatsoever. That's what happens when Dan takes my mom shopping without me. Oh well. At least they were only $3.

Ryleigh has arrived!!!

Here's what you all have been anxiously waiting for. Ryleigh has arrived. She came on Wednesday, January 23 at 11:35pm. Happy Birthday to Grandma and Grandpa Patton! We hope you like your present. She barely made it on their birthday. Well here is the story of what went down that day... I was having contractions all that night before because the doctor stripped my membranes. By the way...Ouch! The contractions weren't very strong and about 6 minutes apart. So Wednesday at 6:50am, I looked cuz I was timing them, during a contraction my water broke. We got moving and took Kenna to Adrianne's house (thanks so much by the way) then went to the hospital. From about 8:30am to 3:30pm my contractions stayed 6 minutes apart and no change in intensity. So Pitocin was started. My mom arrived from the airport at about 3:00pm. The contractions got stronger and more frequent. The doctor came at 6:00pm and checked and I was still dilated to 3 cm only! I wanted to cry. At 8:00pm I finally gave in and got an epidural and some sleep. At 10pm I was at 5 cm. I told the nurse that with McKenna I dilated from 5 to 10 cm in about 45 minutes. So she checked me a half hour or so later and Wahoo!!! I was ready to go! The doctor showed up and I pushed for about half an hour and Dan got to help deliver her. He did awesome. He held her head after it came out and helped rotate it and guide out the rest of the body. He was so proud. We were trying so hard to have her on her grandparents' birthday. We barely made it. Now I have a daughter whose birthday is 711 and a daughter whose birthday is 123. Not bad for remembering dates. Ryleigh weighed in at 6 lbs 11 oz and measured 19 inches. She has chubby cheeks already! And a headfull of black, straight hair. She looks almost like McKenna when she was born. We took her home today and we are doing well. I had no complications after the birth so YEAH! McKenna loves her new baby sister and was very excited to see her on Thursday at the hospital. She loves holding her and kissing her. Thanks again to the Meldrums for watching McKenna all day and letting her stay overnight. We owe you bigtime. Hope you all enjoy the pictures!

Pregnancy update

Went to the doctor's today. Dilated to 3 cm. No regular contractions. But it is getting closer. My mom comes tomorrow. She'd better wait at least one more day. Doctor estimates baby weighs in the upper 6s to lower 7s. We will see.

Video clips of McKenna's gymnastics show

Gymnastics Show

McKenna had her show at gymnastics Monday night. She did awesome. She performed a beam, bar, and floor routine.

Here is her stradle on the bar.

McKenna tried to flip over the bar backward. She got stuck in this position. I love her braids.

She did her backward roll down the wedge.
Ta Da!!!!

And she even got a medal! We are so proud of her. She loves gymnastics and has made significant improvement since the beginning. Dan spoiled her and bought her a crown, necklace, earring, and ring set. She didn't like it at all (sarcastic). I can't get her to take them off still.

Christmas and New Years update

Well I should probably recap our Christmas first. McKenna got a boat load of presents from Santa, Mom and Dad, and Grandpa and Grandma. Even Thumper got a present, pig ears. We went out to the the dollar theater with the Meldrums and watched the Bee Movie while Grandma and Grandpa watched Bourne Ultimatum or whichever was the last one made. The movie was cute. I made cornish game hens for Christmas dinner and funeral potatoes. It turned out pretty good. Sorry no pictures of the dinner. Grandma, Grandpa, and Laurel left Wednesday afternoon despite snowy weather and made it home safe. I am glad we did not have to travel this Christmas. The weekend before New Year's Day, John, Mandi, and Spencer came to visit for a couple of days. I had to work but we did get to play games one evening. We stayed up until almost 2am playing Bang and a game similar to Settlers. It was a lot of fun. They left New Year's Eve day. Dan and I had a party to go to that evening. We were invited to a party by some church friends. We went to a club house and played pool and games. Dan won a laser leveler and a jar of candy. He guessed how many pieces were in the jar. I guessed 250 and he guessed 189. There were 210 pieces so we both won but he was closer. I am the one eating the candy anyway. We spent New Years Day sleeping in until 10am even McKenna. She stayed at a friend's house the night before and we didn't really push putting her to bed so she was still awake when we picked her up a 1am. We had lunch with the Meldrums and Kenna played at their house while Dan and I shopped a little. It was a nice relaxing day. Since then, I have had another doctor's appointment. No baby yet, but I am having random contractions I think. I still have about 5 weeks left. I am starting to swell in my feet and legs. So much fun. But I am still doing pretty well. Just trying to make it until my mom comes on the 23rd. We will see what happens. McKenna is at the last two weeks of the fall/winter semester for gymnastics. She can do a pretty nice looking cartwheel now. Sometimes is looks like a roundoff. They have a final day where the kids each do a routine for the parents. I am excited to see it all put together. Kenna will continue gymnastics for the winter/spring semester. I will have to figure out the best way to put a video clip on the blog so you can see her cartwheel. I tried before to put a video clip on and it took so long I gave up. We will keep you updated on the baby situation as best as possible.
